The Great Search For Wii Games

I spent my entire lunch looking for two Wii games today. The first was Goldeneye 007 Wii and Pikachu's Pokepark. One's mostly for Mike. One's totally for me.

I thought it'd be simple. I'd go to Toys R Us, get the game, that'd be it.

Nope.

Creepy Toys R Us guy is all like "Nope, those games both got pushed back." No freaking way. Pokemon should have come out Monday and there's no way they pushed this shit back at the last moment. Oh and Toys R Us guy was total mouth-breather, going on about how he has a Master's in Biology.

So I went to Wal-Mart and there was a spot for the game and everything. But no game. "Fuck me," I groaned. I asked the guy and he was all confused and such. No Pikachu (no spot either) and no Goldeneye.

Just as I was about to leave he finds the game and luckily decides to try and ring it up. It comes with a shirt too... more on that later.

So now I want Pikachu's Pokepark. Where else? I try GameStop. The guy there says he's never even heard of the game and also says that Goldeneye wasn't there either because they didn't get it in the mail. What ... the... fuck...

So finally, with like 5 minutes of my lunch break left I try Best Buy. Hallelujah! They fucking had it. And I only came back 15 minutes late from lunch.

So now onto the shirt... It's stupid. It's white and has a top hat on it and reads "Cheater." Mike explained it to me bust still...
I suggested to Meg that we mail it off to Oklahoma with a note to Lance saying, "Thinking of you. Love, Jay."

The Guiltiest Pleasure Of All

I've been kinda absent of blogging but I have several blogs planned to come. Tomorrow is my last day of summer quarter so I'll have some extra time to blog.

So as for my guilty pleasure... I can't even talk about it. It's adorable. Watch below...

I'm going to go buy it after dinner tonight. Yes, I know. Bad. But it's just so god damn cute!!!

I'm So Exicted.... And I Just Can't Hide It...

So there's a lot of stuff coming out in the second part of this year that I'm excited for. Yeah, I know. I'm a pop culture whore. Some of it's guilty pleasure, some not. Either way, I'm pumped! Recently I was very satisfied with the new Taking Back Sunday CD as well as the new Marilyn Manson CD. Mandar and I are also loving the Sims 3 so I hope what still is to come won't disappoint.

True Blood: Season 2 - June 14th

Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince - July 15th

Wii Sports Resort - July 26th

Julie & Julia - August 7th

New Cobra Starship CD - August 11th

I Can Do Bad All By Myself - Sept 11th

New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Holiday Season

In addition I am also looking forward to the new Richard Dawkins book for which I couldn't really find a good YouTube video for. There are also new Tarkan, Shakira, and Atreyu CDs slated for release this year!

Mythologies and Green Fields

Last December I got obsessed with a Nintendo DS came called Age of Empire: Mythologies, which is a Nintendo DS remake of the hit PC game. Basically it's a war game that takes place in ancient and mythological Egypt, Rome, and Scandinavia. It's stop action so you take one step at a time which gives you plenty of time to use strategy, much like Chess. I don't really know what else to say about it... besides it's amazing. Unfortunately being a stop action game, it consumes a lot of time and I've been playing it a lot once again. The other night I started playing it at 10:45pm and didn't put it down until around 4am.

Another something I've gotten back into again is Corner Gas. It's a Canadian sitcom that airs on CTV in Canada and WGN in America. Mandar and I saw a commercial for it last year and it looked absolutely stupid. We kept seeing the commercial over and over again and decided to DVR it just to see how stupid it was. And to be honest, I didn't like it the first time. But then I watched another episode (they air two at a time) and for some reason it sun.

It takes place in ficticious Dog River, Saskatchewan. I think the entire series is filmed in the last spring because every single episode (including the Christmas special) occurs during a nice sunny day. The beautiful green fields and the lovely cozy diner. It really makes you want to move to the nice and peaceful fake town. If I could move to any fake place, it'd be Dog River.

I love the charactors too. They too make you want to move there. They're so much more realistic than the plastic shit that's seen on American television. Oscar is the old grouchy man (my favorite episode with him was when he became the town's bus driver). Emma is Oscar's wife who is kinda bitchy, but in the loving motherly way. The show main charactor is Brent who owns a gas station. Basically the whole show revolves around the gas station and the diner (The Ruby) whic his attached to it.

Wanda (the most educated one there) works as the cashier at the gas station. Lacy (who is a dead ringer for Wonder Woman) runs and owns the diner next door. Hank is Brent's lazy and stupid best friend. Oh, and Karen and Davis are the town's two cops. Their hilarious relationship is also a gem in the show.

Take a lesson America. This is what we call a good show. Realistic, quarky, well-written, and most of all, cozy. Below are some great clips from the show I've found on YouTube.

Virtual Console Download: Phantasy Star IV

Perhaps the best RPG of all time in my eyes. Definitely the best game for the Sega Genesis. And now it's available for download from the Wii Virtual Console. It's Phantasy Star IV.

Now if you've played the games that come after Phantasy Star IV then you've been playing shit. PS4 was the last and best. With amazingly deep (especially for 1994!) characters and a brilliant plot, you'll be engulfed in a story that lasts until it's epic finale.

Not only is there the main plot, there's moonlighting opportunities from the guild where you can earn extra money and equip more powerful weaponry and armor. Check out some great screenshots from the game below.

For only $8 you can download it on your Wii today!

Some Horrible Movies Are Amazing

I don't think I will ever get tired of hearing that guy scream "MORTAL KOMBAT!" just before the totally gay techno music sets it while the larger than life video game characters fight. Last week Mandar and our friend Gary watched "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" on DVD. It was amazing. Sure it's a horrible plot, terrible graphics, and sub-par acting. But for some reason I still love this movie. Maybe because during the 90's I was obsessed with the Mortal Kombat franchise. This reminded me how much I love it so much that I totally ran straight to Wal-Mart to purchase Ultimate Mortal Kombat for Nintendo DS. Love it!

Oh and just for shits and giggles, I checked out Rotten Tomatoes to see what it's rating was there. 4%! Haha. That must be a typo. Cos' I'd give this shiz a 94%! Come on people. It's pretty amazing and you just don't wanna admit it.

The Best SNES Game Ever Ruined By Ike

So I looked online today to check out the new virtual console games for Nintendo Wii and was ecstatic to see Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I immediately got out my Wii-mote and purchased 1000 Wii points. For a mere 800 points (or $8) I got a hold of a game that still to this day sells for $50 bucks on eBay!

So the minute it was downloaded I was playing. Even after twelve years I absofuckinlutley love this game! It is quite frankly the most perfect RPG game of all time!

So after about forty five minutes, I’ve already leveled up and received the hammer. I’m in the Mushroom Kingdom talking to the chancellor and then BLACKOUT.

The electricity goes out. See this face: Pissed. So after a few flickers and some weirdness, the power comes back on and I go back to my game, feeling okay at the fact that I saved only four or fives minutes before the power went out. I get this message: DATA IS CORRUPTED AND CANNOT BE USED.

See this face: Dead! My heart stopped. I’m dead. It’s been fun. It’s been real. And Super Mario RPG was real fun but now it’s gone. My money was wasted and thanks to my car insurance and car payment, I’ve not got enough to buy it all over again. Thankfully nothing else has been corrupted, however I still fail to see why exactly this data was corrupted. I mean, shouldn’t it have just treated it as if somebody pulled out the plug? Would that really have made me loose all my data?

So here I sit now, a zombie, waiting for the winds from Hurricane Ike to pass so that I might be able to get the internet back and see if there is a way to re-download Super Mario RPG without having to shell out more money. If not, I’m slitting some Japanese throats over at Nintendo. Oh! There we go! Now I know how to pass the time. I’ma gon’ sharpen ma slittin’ knife! Get ‘er ready to go!

Bottom line: Amazing games and hurricanes don’t mix.

UPDATE: It turns out that the Hurricane is not actually responsible for the corrupted date. Nintendo is and I'm not the only one who's had problems.
